Young Arab entrepreneurs should be getting their business ideas at the ready as The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation and Microsoft Gulf have joined together to create high-tech businesses and generate jobs in the region.
The Dubai-Foundation was launched two years ago with a huge endowment of £6.8bn and will now be partnering up with the US software company’s BizSpark programme to provide start-ups with better access to advanced technologies. This exciting partnership has set up six training centres for young Arab business leaders in six countries, and it expects to be operating 22 facilities by 2010.
From June Dubai’s first budget carrier – flydubai – spreads its wings and heads for the skies of Beirut and Amman. Chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said that despite the current slowdown in air travel, the low-cost carrier is aiming to achieve a load factor of more than 50%.
With a total of 54 Boeing 777-800 aircraft worth £2.8bn on order and two being delivered in May Sheikh Ahmed says: “We will be receiving six aircraft by the end of the year and aim to be flying to more than four destinations.”
