“As a first time exhibitor to both Dubai and the Big 5 exhibition, we were a bit concerned about any potential language and culture barriers. We were pleased then to learn that he majority of visitors to the exhibition are English speaking.
As experienced UK exhibitors, nothing could have prepared us for the sheer scale of the Big 5 exhibition. It was absolutely huge, with over 3,200 exhibitor stands from around the world represented in various exhibition halls.
Our stand made a really visual impact so we had a constant stream of visitors eager to look at the objects on show – a boat, a bridge and an office/meeting area, all manufactured from curved glass, fitting the stunning and innovative aesthetic expected of Dubai architecture.
Since our return from the Big 5, we have continued to receive purchase orders from Dubai. The response to our products was so overwhelming (both during and after the exhibition) that we are considering setting up a showroom in Dubai, such is the size of the potential market.
As our 200-year old company has a history of supplying curved glass to royal palaces, stately homes and other equally prestigious projects, it has been great to see the company preparing to look to the future and beyond by returning to Dubai to exhibit once again at the Big 5, trying to encourage the use of curved glass within the massive construction projects which currently abound within the emirate.”

DTCM invited delegates from various chambers of commerce to a business fact-finding trip which took place May 30 – June 3. The delegates stayed at the luxurious Jumeirah Emirates Towers and the Jumeirah Living. They visited the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, the Dubai International Financial Centre, the Jebel Ali Free Zone, the Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority, Dubai Media City and property developers Nakheel.
The group also enjoyed vibrant gastronomic delights at Hyatt Regency Dubai, The Address, Radison Blu Hotel, Dubai Media City
Here’s what some of the delegates had to say about the trip:
Teri Carnegie
International Trade Adviser – UK Trade & Investment South East
“Dubai is a creative and forward thinking city that has a positive and inspirational view for its future economic development. As a gateway to the continents of Africa and India it sets a new standard for international business.”
Hari Rai
Senior Advisor – IntaTrade, Coventry University Enterprises Limited
“For SMEs, thinking of establishing a presence in one of the many developing free zones like Media City, Knowledge City, Dubai Airport Free Zones to name a few, Dubai provides an ideal way of exploiting opportunity through strategic location to Eastern and African markets and needs to be a must on any internationalization checklist.”
David Russ
Managing Director – South Wales Chamber of Commerce
“I would like to thank the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing for a visit that was second to none. The richness of the landscape, people, and culture has to be experienced to be appreciated. I was completely taken aback by the vision and speed of the development that Dubai continues to enjoy. We certainly could use a page from their book to move our own agendas forward – at speed!”
John Tingle
Regional Team Manger – East of England International
“This visit was a great opportunity to see how far Dubai has come and the depth of its ambition for the future. I found the level of vision and logic applied to the overall concept of Dubai as an international city and springboard for business in the greater region to be extraordinary. The structures for business, both inside and outside the themed Free Zones, makes Dubai a strong contender for any company looking to set up in the region. As the map of Dubai makes plain, the future economy lies in a mix of commercial and leisure based businesses. The professionalism of the available staff and the high levels of service that we found on the visit lend themselves well to this mixed economy.”
Tim Hutchings
CEO – Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce
“The visit was wonderfully organised and extremely informative. Dubai not only provides a wide range of opportunities for our businesses to do business but also to learn lessons from a dynamic, forward looking community. The development of Dubai is nothing short of spectacular and moving forward it is clear that there are enormous opportunities for investment and to develop business in the region. Dubai is an important hub for businesses wishing to do business in the Middle East, India and North Africa, the levels of expertise available in these areas is very impressive. The Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce & Industry looks forward to building upon this visit by increasing our own knowledge of the area, developing relationships with the people I have met and by encouraging our businesses to consider the wide range of opportunities that exist in the area.”
