Ongoing Development
Dubailand is possibly the most ambitious project currently underway in Dubai. Encompassing a range of attractions including multiple theme parks, shopping centres, hotels and restaurants, this truly is a city within a city.
Spanning an area of 3 billion square feet, Dubailand will consist of seven distinct areas comprising Theme parks, Culture & Art, Science & Planetariums, Sports & Sports academies, Wellbeing & Health, Shopping & Retail and Resorts & Hotels.
Universal Studios, Marvel Entertainment and Legoland are just 3 of the biggest names to be developing theme parks in the complex. There will be a massive total of 24 upon completion.
The Culture & Art sector will include attractions such as the Islamic Culture & Science World and The Falcon City of Wonders. These cultural centers will include features such as museums and a multitude of indoor and outdoor exhibition centers and theatres. The latter complex will be shaped to represent the falcon which is emblematic of the heritage of the UAE.
Sports City is a new development within Dubailand which aims to become one of the worlds premier sporting destinations. Its vision is that of an entirely independent enclave within the larger Sports section of the Dubailand complex, which can provide every possible sporting amenity one could need. Medical facilities, hotels, community centres and sports academies will all be present alongside 4 world class stadiums which include dedicated facilities for all major sports.
Located within Dubailand is the world’s first Tiger Woods golf resort. It will feature a course designed by Tiger himself – Al Ruwaya. Aside from the state of the art golf course, the luxurious compound will include residences and a hotel. There will be a total of 5 golf courses within the Sports area of Dubailand alongside a Butch Harmon golfing academy.
The largest shopping mall in the world is currently under construction within the City of Arabia, a multi-purpose metropolis within Dubailand. The Mall of Arabia will become the largest mall ever built when it is completed in 2010.
Further developments in other quarters of Dubailand include Beautyland an exclusive array of beauty spas designed to maximise health and wellness, Al Barari, a development of private villas surrounded by lush vegetation and botanic gardens and Astrolabe Resort, the first entertainment complex based on educational themes in the Middle East.
At 10 times the size of the current Dubai International Airport, the new Al Maktoum International Airport is a groundbreaking development which forms the backbone of Dubai World Central which itself aims to be the worlds leading logistics, tourism and commerce hub.
The Dubai Metro is the longest automated metro network in the world. It is currently being developed, with the Red line currently operational and the Green line under construction due to open in June 2010. Two further lines are also being considered to further boost the transport infrastructure.
The upcoming Tram network in Dubai is expected to contain two separate Trams when it is completed by April 2011, one running from The Burj Khalifa to the Dubai Mall, the other from The Dubai Marina to the Mall of the Emirates. There will be various intersections along the route with the newly completed Metro Red Line.
Palm Islands
| • | Within the Palm Jebel Ali, The Worlds of Discovery complex is to be developed and will feature a collection of 4 theme parks including SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, Aquatica and Discovery Cove. It will be located on the top of the Palm, on an island which is shaped like an orca and is due to open in 2012.
|
| • | The Waterfront is a project aimed at enhancing the already impressive Palm Jebel Ali by arranging a collection of archipelagos around the edge in an arc. This will become the largest man made development in the world housing over 1 million people with a collection of commercial and residential enterprises.
|
| • | The World is an entirely new development being constructed off the coast of Dubai, to accompany the existing 3 Palm islands. Having been successfully terra formed, The World islands are now being individually developed by their respective owners. Islands will feature a variety of different commercial and residential projects and access is gained solely by boat or helicopter.
