Trade with Dubai

As the world finds itself in the midst of an economic crisis the trade between the UAE and Britain has bucked the trend and grown by 17% per cent to £1.23 billion during the first quarter of this 2009. Designated one of UKTI's High Growth Markets the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is the largest market in the Middle East for the UK. It is the UK’s 14th largest export market at around £3.7 billion. 88per cent of exports go to Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

Dubai’s extensive foreign trade network offers businesses a wide choice of global marketing in  goods and services. The Emirate has long been a leading trading centre. Its geographical proximity to the Middle East and the subcontinent combined with sophisticated logistic infrastructure between Europe and the Far East make Dubai the best choice for regional trading and networking.

Direct Trade

International manufacturers and exporters may conduct business with Dubai by concluding transactions directly with importers and traders who are already established in the market. This type of arms’ length arrangement may be suitable for low volume trade. However, for an on-going business relationship, overseas companies may want to consider a more permanent form of representation.

Commercial Agencies

A foreign company wishing to supply goods and services from abroad, but without establishing a physical presence in Dubai, may find it advantageous to appoint a commercial agent. The main provision of the Federal Commercial Agency Law No. 18 of 1981 as amended by Law No. 14 of 1988 is that an agent must be a UAE national, or a company 100% owned by UAE nationals.

Dubai hosts two main trading free zones, Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) for sea freight and and Dubai Airport Free Zone (DAFZA) for airfreight.

From the very beginning Jebel Ali free zone was set up to become an international business hub that offers its valued clients a wide range of valuable features, such  as  a strategic business location, excellent logistics and high-capacity infrastructure. Outstanding logistics infrastructure is one of Jafza’s key strengths. Situated between Jebel Ali Port, Dubai, the world’s 6th largest container port and the upcoming Al Maktoum International Airport, the world’s largest cargo airport, Jafza is the only free zone in the world to be located between the two major logistic enablers. With a six lane highway Jebel Ali Free Zone will facilitate the transportation of goods (custom bound) from sea to air in just 20 minutes:

Dubai Airport Free Zone was established in 1996 and now it is considered as one of the fastest growing Free Zones in the region. The Free Zone offers airfreight of high luxury and perishable goods and provides all facilities required by multinational companies worldwide to establish their regional offices and capture business opportunities available in the neighboring countries for a market of over 2 billion consumers:
