Investit in Dubai
Even the most established firms could benefit from a bit of expert advice from time to time, particularly in the current climate, which is why specialist management consultancy Investit is being welcomed to The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) with open arms.
Investit works with investment managers and their third party administration providers, custodians, regulators and software vendors. The company helps established firms to improve their businesses, and start-ups build from strong foundations.
Planning for the move started in 2007, and in 2008 Catherine Doherty, CEO of MENA region, came out to the UAE on a permanent basis in order to look for the ideal emirate in which to set up business. Doherty said of the decision to move to Dubai International Financial Centre: “While many of the cities we considered had their strong points the supportive structure of the DIFC was a major contribution to our choosing Dubai for our first MENA office. We have been part the DIFC since May 2009 and it is working well for us. We have recruited locally and staff from our London and Sydney offices are happy to come here to work. The business plan is on track, we are winning business and we look forward to serving our clients from the DIFC for years to come.”

Case study: a touch of glass
“As a first time exhibitor to both Dubai and the Big 5 exhibition, we were a bit concerned about any potential language and culture barriers. We were pleased then to learn that he majority of visitors to the exhibition are English speaking.
As experienced UK exhibitors, nothing could have prepared us for the sheer scale of the Big 5 exhibition. It was absolutely huge, with over 3,200 exhibitor stands from around the world represented in various exhibition halls.
Our stand made a really visual impact so we had a constant stream of visitors eager to look at the objects on show – a boat, a bridge and an office/meeting area, all manufactured from curved glass, fitting the stunning and innovative aesthetic expected of Dubai architecture.
Since our return from the Big 5, we have continued to receive purchase orders from Dubai. The response to our products was so overwhelming (both during and after the exhibition) that we are considering setting up a showroom in Dubai, such is the size of the potential market.
As our 200-year old company has a history of supplying curved glass to royal palaces, stately homes and other equally prestigious projects, it has been great to see the company preparing to look to the future and beyond by returning to Dubai to exhibit once again at the Big 5, trying to encourage the use of curved glass within the massive construction projects which currently abound within the emirate.”

Great Scots!
Businesses looking for marketing solutions in Dubai would do well to turn to The Native Agency which has worked with some of the emirate’s most eminent – Dubai Caledonian Society and the Al-Maktoum Institute to name just two. Extending its relationship between Scotland and Dubai, the agency has recently created the Middle East Business Club (MEBC) in partnership between Scottish Chambers of Commerce, led by Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce. Its aim is to encourage more business between the regions by helping businesses enter from overseas into both Dubai and Scotland/the UK by providing market research, market entry and marketing plans. The expert team will evaluate businesses product or service and assess its overall prospects before suggesting a way into the intended market.
Chief Executive, Iain Stirling said: “Opening our office in Dubai has helped transform our business as Dubai is the true gateway for doing business in the Middle East. Native is here for the long-term and want to build on the existing established links between Scotland and Dubai, of which the Al-Maktoum Institute in Dundee is one tangible example.”
